Cedar Courtyard

Residential / Hudson Valley, NY

A quiet modern residence organized around a protected central courtyard, connecting interior spaces with the surrounding landscape.

Cedar Courtyard was conceived as a quiet retreat organized around a protected central courtyard. Rather than treating the landscape as something viewed from the house, the design brings it inward—allowing the courtyard to become a constant visual and physical connection between the home’s primary living spaces.

A restrained palette of warm wood, natural stone, glass, and dark metal gives the residence a grounded, timeless character. Expansive openings frame changing views throughout the day, while deep overhangs and carefully placed walls provide shade, privacy, and a sense of enclosure without disconnecting the interiors from their surroundings.

The result is a home that feels both open and intimate: a series of calm, light-filled spaces shaped by the rhythms of daily life and the wooded Hudson Valley site.
